The loblolly pine is the leading commercial species in the Southern United States. The native range extends throughout 14 states from Southern New Jersey down through Central Florida and West to Eastern Texas. The loblolly pine is the most widely planted pine in the southeastern United States. This species has also popular throughout the world and has been planted in Asia, Southern Africa, and South America. Loblolly pine has been genetically improved for over 60 years and is the most aggressive growing southern pine species. It is not uncommon to see loblolly pine produce 6 to 7 tons of wood per acre per year. Sites with the correct genetics and silviculture can produce over 12 tons of wood per acre per year.
